Client Server Development

Auckland Software set out on the Client Server path in 1995. Our vision was that the Desktop war would be won by Windows, that PC power would rise exponentially and that the cost would fall to the point where Client Server based solely on the PC platform was a reality. This has all occurred.

We designed and built several applications in the Retail and business environment. They include the Management 2000 RMS (Retail Management System, a large application with large databases and a large number of Client interface panels and many users). This as been expanded to use asp reporting and Web Class user applications to support Telesales and Store POS using Internet Explorer over standard LAN and VPN services. The current model is full three tier, using SQL Windows, Visual Basic, Internet Explorer or Excel as the user interface and Microsoft SQLServer as the database.

We have a fully defined and precise methodology for the design, development and implementation of new systems, that takes full advantage of the reality that a change made before the system is built costs 1% of the cost of the same change made after the application is built. We use a prototyping, iterative model with heavy emphasis on valid test data, and we always ask the question "what do you do with this?". We ensure that the completed application caters for ALL of the users needs, rather than delivering a tool that needs additional support from spreadsheets etc.
